While methyl bromide has been an effective fumigant for controlling plant pests, it is also harmful to the environment. The three NAPPO member countries have been phasing out the use of methyl bromide through innovations and riskbased approaches.
In this symposium, we will explore the history of methyl bromide use, receive the latest updates on the NAPPO project on alternatives to methyl bromide, and learn about case studies on innovations in reducing methyl bromide use.
Since 1976, NAPPO has adopted or implemented over 70 documents and activities, including Regional Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (RSPMs), science and technology, discussion, position, and guidance documents, protocols, and workshops and symposiums.
The goal of this symposium is to learn about the purpose of the various NAPPO documents and activities, how they are being implemented, the successes and challenges of implementation by the three-member countries and their stakeholders, and ways we can improve implementation going forward.
