ISPM-38 Workshop on Implementation

The North American Plant Protection Organization will hold a 2 ½ day “Americas focused” implementation workshop of the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) 38 – International Movement of Seeds - in early March, 2019.  The workshop will be held at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA) campus in San Jose, Costa Rica and will have between 50-60 invited government and seed association phytosanitary experts from North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. 

The workshop has been specifically designed to address the guidance provided in ISPM 38 – “to identify, assess and manage pest risks associated with the international movement of seeds” and will provide harmonization value for North America and its closest trading partners.

Key areas to be addressed will include guidance on procedures to establish phytosanitary import requirements to facilitate the international movement of seed, guidelines on inspection, sampling and testing of seeds and guidelines on the phytosanitary certification of seeds for export and re-export.
