Dear NAPPO stakeholders,
Thanks for your inquiries about the 2021 NAPPO Annual Meeting. As you are aware, because of COVID-19 travel restrictions and concerns for the well-being of all our stakeholders, we are unable to hold the 2020 meeting, which was to be hosted by Mexico in Merida, Yucatan, this fall.
We are very happy to inform you that the United States will host the 2021 NAPPO Annual Meeting, on course with its normal country rotation. We have some exciting news to share about the 2021 meeting’s timing and format. Please read on.
NEW TIMING - Mark your calendars! The 2021 Annual Meeting will be held the week of August 9, 2021.
NEW FORMAT - The 2021 NAPPO Annual Meeting will be held in conjunction with the North American Safeguarding Conference, which was rescheduled to 2021.
The plan is for the North American Safeguarding Conference to take place the first 2.5 days of the week after which an abridged version of the NAPPO Annual Meeting will take place.
The program and speaker line-up for the North American Safeguarding Conference is designed to pay tribute to the International Year of Plant Health - IYPH, which has now been extended until mid-2021. The program brings together government and industry leaders, scientists and researchers, and private businesses working on next-generation technologies to collectively consider innovative approaches/solutions to the top plant health and safe trade challenges of the next decade.
The agenda for the North American Safeguarding Conference includes several knowledge sessions focused on the latest scientific and innovation topics, including, among others:
using advanced analytics and forecasting to better predict and prepare for new pest threats,
protecting plant health in the age of increasingly globalized business, and
using precision agriculture tools and technologies to prevent, detect, control, and respond to pest threats.
Because of the above, we strongly urge our stakeholders to attend both events, occurring the same week at the same location!
The abridged Agenda for the 2021 NAPPO Annual Meeting will retain its essential elements, including:
the NAPPO Secretariat update,
the Executive Committee country reports,
the NAPPO Expert Group Project reports,
time for stakeholders to network,
Government and Industry meetings by country,
NAPPO governance meetings, and
welcome reception and awards.
This combined meeting approach will increase NAPPO's exposure to a wider stakeholder audience and will allow NAPPO stakeholders interested in attending both events to easily do so.
Information on meeting registration and logistics will be coming soon!
